Two essays full of meaning
Being subscribed to the Honestly podcast with Bari Weiss I listened to the December 25th episode where two essays were read aloud by the authors themselves.
The first is from a teenage girl, 17 years of age and apparently a certain kind of wisdom befell her, as her essay conveys. Her name is Ruby LaRocca from Ithaca, New York and she conveys 5 points to increase happiness under her fellow age-peers.
The second is from Michael Tobin writing his essay in the role as a husband, lover and friend whose wife Deborah is suffering from Alzheimers disease.
The subject is tough, but it’s beautifully and articulately written. The listener also feels a pain the author went through when he, his wife, three of their four children and their spouses and seven of the thirteen grandchildren of were sitting at a table in their favorite cafe when a good friend Hannah of Deborah’s for 32 years walks up to the table asking the couple about their a trip they made. Deborah doesn’t speak and asked when the woman left who Hannah was. The author is able with the might of his pen to immerse the reader/listener in what he felt at that moment, while Deborah didn’t feel what had occurred … describing in a gracious, loving and losing way what can occur when a person starts forgetting and loved ones at a certain point can’t deny Deborah’s loss of memory any longer.
